Ford and Samsung consider Britain for electric battery gigafactories

Some of the world’s major carmakers and technologies corporations are mulling designs to establish battery “gigafactories” in the United kingdom amid governing administration overtures to the sector.

Six corporations, such as carmakers Ford and Nissan and South Korean electronics giants LG and Samsung, are in discussions with the Government above destinations for battery factories in Britain, the Economic Occasions reported.

Also amid the interested corporations are start-ups BritishVolt, which publicly disclosed its fascination final year, and Slovakia’s InoBat. 

Ford is at this time contemplating prospective destinations for a battery provider for its Transit Tailor made, an all-electrical van that is thanks to go into output in Turkey in 2023.

A Government spokesman reported it was “dedicated to securing gigafactories, and continue on[s] to work carefully with traders and auto manufacturers to progress designs to mass deliver batteries in the UK”.
